Our local fish market is slowly going out of business and last year they stopped selling herring altogether. We were so upset as making our own pickled herring has been a family tradition for many years. We discovered Nordic House online and have been so impressed! The herring are beautifully filleted and firm. No more spending hours cleaning the whole fish we used to get. We just cut the fillets into 1 1/2 inch pieces, rinse them several times and then soak them in fresh water for two hours to remove some of the saltiness. Then we pack them in a large jar with pickling solution, spices and onions and wait 2-3 days before testing and eating. Delicious! Thank you Nordic House! (Updated on 12/3/2012.) Had purchased the salted herring fillets for our traditional family smorgasbord this past Sunday........everyone took a treat home,and had none leftover for us. Now re-ordering, just for myself and wife. Excellent and fresh product.

I grew up with salt herring. When you get the headless fish, you have to clean it, gut it, and bone it. This is a lot of work, well worth it, but still. Now, with Nordic House salt herring filets -- I do not have to do the work to enjoy the same quality product! Plus, when I called to express concern about the price of shipping, the people at N.H. were super nice and made sure the shipping was affordable. They packed the fish really well, with ice packs and it was still cold when it reached me clear across the country. I look forward to enjoying my childhood favorite herring, and trying other items, too. Thanks!
